If It Looks Like A Sancerre And Smells Like A Sancerre, It Must Be A Beginner Wine Class

Champagne and a Manhattan to celebrate.

I completed the first level of the Court of Master Sommeliers this month! To be fair, it was relatively easy considering I'd done the WSET Advanced Level in October, but for anyone considering taking the plunge it's still a lot of information. The pass rate is fairly high, but if you want to do well it's a good idea to follow the outline and some sort of wine atlas ahead of time. I took the 2-day intensive class, and let me tell you, it was whirlwind. And as much I love blind tasting and felt pretty solid with my identifications, doing it first thing in the morning is interesting to say the least. Fortunately, our Somms were funny and engaging and really put everyone at ease. Anyway, I'm excited to begin the journey to the Certified Somm level which I plan on taking when it comes to Seattle this autumn, and hopefully beyond to Advanced. But for now, I'm putting aside serious wine studies and focusing on the start of spring and marathon training season.
